As early as April, Apple was in talks to buy Californian company NextVR, a company that deals with virtual reality technology. According to a Bloomberg report Apple has now confirmed the acquisition, but the purchase amount and the terms of the acquisition have not been released.
NextVR is reported to help Apple develop its own AR and VR hardware and also optimize existing software products. NextVR is said to offer sports and other related content tailored to VR headsets like Facebook's Oculus and similar offerings from Sony, Lenovo and HTC.
However, Apple had not shown how NextVR's know-how should be used and how the acquisition was in line with its own AR and VR ambitions. "Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally don't discuss our purpose or plans," an Apple spokesman for CNBC was quoted as saying.
