MediaTek Dimensity 820 chip announced for premium flagship devices

MediaTek updates its Dimensity Chip portfolio – the powerful Dimensity 1000 was announced in November 2019 – to include the new Dimensity 820 SoC, which the company says is "optimized for premium user experiences" and targeted to make 5G more accessible.

It is an octa-core processor, of which four powerful Arm Cortex-A76 cores are clocked at 2.6 GHz, paired with the five-core Arm Mali G57 GPU with HyperEngine 2.0, which supports a high update Rates up to 120 Hz.

Our Dimensity 1000 already supplies impressive 5G flagship devices in a number of markets. With the new Dimensity 820, we are now making 5G much more accessible.

The chip contains a 5G NR modem (below 6 GHz) for lightning-fast connectivity with 5G carrier aggregation (CA) technology.

Also part of the Dimensity 820 SoC are a dedicated APU 3.0 as an artificial intelligence unit that provides the AI ​​camera with more powerful functions, the HyperEngine 2.0 game technologies mentioned above for superior gaming experiences and the MediaTek Imagiq 5.0 image signal processor that supports this supported by quad camera setups.

The Dimensity 820 stands out from the competition by offering four powerful Arm Cortex-A76 cores with 2.6 GHz in its octa-core CPU and excellent performance under its incredible AI, gaming and photography experiences and responsiveness.

The Dimensity 820 was developed for global sub-6 GHz 5G networks in Asia, North America and Europe. It is not yet known exactly when we will see the Dimensity 820 chip in commercially available smartphones, but the second half of the year is our best guess.
