Mediatek officially introduced the Dimensity 820 SoC. With the new chip, Mediatek would like to be able to equip medium-range smartphones that should also have 5G connectivity. If you look at the key data, you will find that the Mediatek Dimensity 820 should probably appeal to the "upper middle class".
MediaTek Dimensity 820: Mid-range SoC with integrated 5G and 120 Hz support
820 is an octa core with 4x ARM Cortex-A76 at 2.6 GHz and 4x ARM Cortex-A55 at 2.0 GHz. The GPU is an ARM Mali G57 with 5 cores. Technically, it is above the Diemensity 800 that was shown at CES in January and has never been seen on smartphones. According to Mediatek, the Dimensity 820 also makes it easy to address 120 Hz displays with ease. In addition, proprietary HyperEngine 2.0 should ensure that the chip performs well – the CPU, RAM and GPU should also be controlled so that overall performance is correct.
The chip is published by TSMC with 7-nanometer production standards. The chip is also equipped with the APU 3.0 engine (AI Processing Unit), with which you can implement the intelligent functions of photo and video.
The Dimensity 820 processor contains an integrated 5G-NR modem, which is designed for operation below 6 GHz. It supports 5G carrier aggregation (CA) technology. In addition, the chip offers two SIM cards in 5G mode (dual SIM, dual standby 5G).
Among other things, the possibility of using LPDDR4X-RAM, cameras with a resolution of up to 80 MP and displays of the FHD + format is mentioned.
Redmi 10X was announced during the premiere of the chip. We used to think that the MediaTek Helio G85 SoC would exist. Instead, it would get the new Dimensity 820. It will be the first smartphone with the new MediaTek chip. However, we will soon see how this new SoC really works.
