China's internet regulatory protocols are fairly strict, but Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg has raised concerns that this model could be replicated by other countries. He called on Western countries to create a democratic framework to counter this during a discussion with EU Commissioner for the Internal Market, Theirry Breton.
"To put it very clearly: I think there is a model from countries like China that tend to have completely different values than western countries that are more democratic," Zuckerberg was quoted by the CNBC. Zuckerberg noted that he was concerned that the Chinese model of internet regulation is spreading to other countries.
The billionaire Facebook boss called it "highly dangerous" and added that the best antidote to this policy was to develop a framework that came from "western democratic countries" and could be implemented at a global level.
