After flagship smartphones, chipset manufacturers are now offering mid-range 5G offerings to make the new connectivity technology more accessible. Well, it looks like we can now see entry-level devices flaunting 5G connectivity. Qualcomm, a popular chipset manufacturer, is currently working on an affordable 5G chipset from the Snapdragon 6 series. At the time of this writing, the company offers a Snapdragon 856 5G chipset for flagship devices, while the Snapdragon 765 and 765G targets mid-range devices.

A Notable Chinese Tipster The name Digital Chat Station has released some early details on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Series 5G chipset. The chipset ships with the model number SM6350, while the official nickname remains unknown. The next 5G SoC of the 6 series will be delivered with eight cores – two with 2.246 GHz and six with 1.804 GHz. The leak further mentions that we could see Cortex A77.
The new chipset is paired with the Adreno 615 GPU with a maximum frequency of 850 MHz. Apart from that, we also have some availability information about the new Snapdragon 6-series 5G chipset. It looks like the chipset will become official sometime in the second quarter of 2020. As soon as the SoC becomes official, we should see that 5G devices are more accessible and spread across a wide range of catering for more users.
More manufacturers are working on the budget 5G chipset
In addition to Qualcomm, other chipset manufacturers are also working on providing 5G connectivity for their entry-level chipsets. This means that we will soon see a variety of entry-level 5G devices from different brands. MediaTek is working on its MT6853 5G chipset, while Huawei is working on Kirin 720 5G SoC. The MediaTek MT6853 5G chipset is said to be less powerful than the Dimensity 800 chipset. Unfortunately, we don't know much about the Kirin 720 5G chipset.
Samsung will soon penetrate the cheaper 5G chips with its Exynos 880 5G. The Exynos 880 could be the underclocked version of the Exynos 980. In fact, we will soon see the same chipset in the upcoming Vivo Y70s smartphone that will soon be launched in China. With regard to 5G devices, the Huawei sub-brand Honor is also working on its Honor Play 4 Pro. In addition, Xiaomi is expected to launch its Redmi 10X series, which will also bring 5G connectivity to the table.
