Facebook recently announced that it will put hundreds of thousands of employees in permanent remote working status, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg even hinting that half of the Facebook workforce may be working remotely in 10 years. But the company also has a cool vision for remote work that includes VR and AR and comes straight from a science fiction film.
Andrew Bosworth, head of Facebook's AR and VR department, has tweeted a short video of the company's mixed reality experiment on “charging remote work and productivity”. The clip, which is an actual footage, shows the user how he works on floating displays and interacts with them using gestures such as pushing, zooming, and dragging.
Bosworth notes that the company has worked on technologies that allow users to switch between real and virtual world. In a subsequent tweet, he mentioned that the footage involved using prototype headsets. While the technology shown in the video is too advanced to even think of getting into the hands of consumers soon, it's definitely a pleasure to see what the future will bring to the table.
