Huawei Mate 40 series for using the 5 nm Kirin 1000 SoC from TSMC


The upcoming Huawei flagship, the Mate 40 series, is already under development. Recently there have been a number of reports about Huawei and the Mate series. According to the well-known Twitter treat @ rodent950 the flagship chip is the next generation of Huawei Kirin 1000. This chip uses the 5 nm process from TSMC and is launched by the Huawei Mate 40 series brought.

According to industry information, the Kirin 1000 uses the code name "Baltimore". It uses a 5nm process and can use the Cortex A78 architecture. The CPU and GPU will obviously improve a lot. We've heard of Kirin 1020, but it appears to be different from Kirin 1000.

We know that the Kirin 990 5G uses the Cortex A76 architecture. When Kirin skips the A77 and updates to the A78 architecture, the performance of the CPU and GPU improves significantly. However, we do not expect any specific CPU information until the press conference.

As usual, the new Kirin flagship processor from Huawei will be released in autumn with the new Mate series. Therefore, the Huawei Mate 40 series should be the first model with 5 nm processors without surprise. It will temporarily lead its opponent in performance due to the first mover advantage.

In addition, the Mate 40 series will feature the Porsche design Huawei Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, Mate 40 RS, etc. It is not yet certain whether there will be a "super large" Mate 40 Pro +. When Huawei launches the Mate 40 Pro +, the Porsche design version will likely be based on the Mate 40 Pro +.

The latest unofficial renderings have given us a glimpse of what the Huawei Mate 40 series could look like. The Huawei Mate 40 comes with a Penta camera setup. Four camera sensors and a flash are located in a matrix compartment. However, there is another camera below the matrix. When looking at the inscription "100X" next to the single camera, this independent sensor should be a telephoto lens.

The biggest feature of the back design is the new secondary screen design. This secondary screen shows the time, power, WiFi, alarm and network signals. Of course, I believe that this sub-screen also has more functions, like a self-timer, a viewfinder, etc. This is the first time that we have such a design from Huawei. However, this is not entirely new for the smartphone industry. Do you remember the Meizu Pro 7? It comes with a similar secondary rear window. With the Meizu Pro 7, the dual rear cameras are embedded in the secondary display.

The renderings show that the Mate 40 series uses a curved 3D display – more like the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. In addition, there is no notch or perforation. Speculation has it that the company is currently using a camera under the display. However, under-display camera technology is still in development. Huawei may not be able to use this function. The best choice is a pop-up camera design, which is not a bad idea.
