OnePlus has come a long way in recent years, from a startup to one of the most important and trendiest smartphone manufacturers. The company has won a large number of followers thanks to its affordable flagships. However, growing demand for better specs, premium cameras and more forced the company to adjust its strategy. Now we can pretty much say that OnePlus makes premium smartphones, but they still have one of the best software supports for this type of device. The OxygenOS community is one of the reasons for the company's popularity. Premium smartphones and amazing software, these two functions are no longer enough, the company agrees. Today Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus, confirmed that the company is planning an expansion to diversify its product offering. It will start with cheaper smartphones, like the rumored OnePlus Z.
Unfortunately, Lau did not give many details in his Weibo disclosure. However, in an interview with Fast Company, the CEO, the implied hat plans to resume the development of more affordable smartphones while expanding to other categories. Rumors indicate the introduction of a cheaper OnePlus Z device with Snapdragon 765G. The said device was to be officially launched together with the OnePlus 8 series. However, this changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. More recently, a report said the company is going for disclosure in late June or early July.

"We have a background and roots as a hardware company, but from what we see for the future, building an ecosystem is a forward trend."
The company's new goal is to build an ecosystem to attract more users. This will be done by selling lower cost cell phones. Since the company mentioned an ecosystem, we may also consider other smart home products. The company already has devices in the segment en Smart TV and TWS. However, the list can grow even further with wearables and IoT devices.
Whatever the company plans, we will learn more details soon.
