It appears that OPPO is serious about developing a new chip for its devices. According to the latest information, OPPO has aggressively hired engineers to work on its future processors, and all come from large companies.
According to Nikkei Asian Review, OPPO has hired MediaTek, Qualcomm and HiSilicon engineers to work in the company's new processor. Recent recruitment violations include some top executives from MediaTek and Unisoc. Some of these new employees have worked in MediaTek's 5G chip development, and even Jeffery Lu, MediaTek's co-chief operating officer, may now be on OPPO's payroll.
Oppo does not seem to be so dependent on other companies to avoid falling into the same trap as Huawei. The company is also expected to invest heavily in chip research and development to strengthen and simplify its supply chain. However, we have to wait a few years to see the results of these measures.
