New RedmiBook appears on May 26 next to Redmi 10X

Redmi Prime (or Redmi 9) is the company's new smartphone for India, which will be launched on August 4

Xiaomi decided out of the blue to test a new smartphone in the Indian market. Surprisingly, the device comes with the nickname Redmi Prime. It looks like Redmi Prime will be an affordable offering from the Chinese smartphone maker. In fact, some reports suggest that the country may be renamed Redmi 9 or Redmi 9A. Well, Xiaomi's sub-brand Redmi has also announced the launch date for the smartphone on its official Twitter channel.

Xiaomi Redmi Prime will be launched in India on August 4.

As already mentioned, Redmi has published a test on its official Twitter account for the new product. According to the post, Xiaomi Redmi Prime will be officially unveiled on August 4 at 12 p.m. IST. The attached teaser picture shows nothing but the nickname Prime. Some key terms such as "Prime Time Entertainment", "Prime Time Gaming", "Prime Time Camera" and some others are advertised live on the official brand page of the product. It is too early to speculate on the smartphone as information is currently scarce.

If you look closely at the teaser, you can see the waterdrop design of the device. As expected, the front selfie sensor is located in the notch. Below you can also see a 3.5mm audio jack, a charging port and a speaker. Finally, there is a notification button on the product's official website. Since the publication of the official teaser, various reports have speculated that this could be another renamed smartphone for the market. This time it could be either Redmi 9 or Redmi 9A. This could be true considering that Xiaomi has already launched its other counterparts in the country.

Specifications, Features

Given that the device is a renamed Redmi 9, we can assume that it comes with a 6.53-inch display with Full HD + resolution will, water drop notch style and gorilla glass protector. Under the hood, the device runs on a MediaTek Helio G80 chipset with up to 4 GB RAM. Although we may also see a 6 GB variant on the Indian market. The onboard memory, however, is limited to up to 64 GB. If that's not enough, you can expand it via a microSD slot.

With regard to the optics, we consider a quad reversing camera module with a 13MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultrawide lens, a 5MP macro, and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front is an 8 megapixel selfie shooter in the water drop notch. All of these are supported by a 5,020 mAh battery.
