Last month, Xiaomi's Redmi introduced the Redmi 9A and the Redmi 9C as two of its cheapest smartphones for 2020. However, the Redmi 9A was the cheapest option with modest specifications and aggressive prices. Today the company introduces the Redmi 9A in China. It is the second smartphone from the Redmi 9 series to reach the country. The original Redmi 9 costs 799 yuan in the country, which equates to $ 115. The Redmi 9A is the entry-level Redmi smartphone, priced at just 599 yuan or $ 85. This is a really good smartphone for this price that surpasses most Android Go phones on the market.
The Chinese version of the Redmi 9A has 2 GB LPDDR4X-RAM and 32 GB eMMC 5.1 memory. The handset will be available in three color options: Clear Sky, Lake Green and Sand Black. The design is very similar to that of the Redmi 8A from last year.
Redmi 9A specifications
There is a Helio G25 chipset under the hood of the Redmi 9A. It's an entry-level SoC from MediaTek, but it's more than enough to get satisfactory performance. Finally, for this price, you get a device with an octa-core chipset with eight Cortex-A53 cores. It offers a massive increase in performance compared to last year's Redmi 8A / 7A, which was delivered with Snapdragon 439. It's even better than the Redmi 8 that came with the same SD439.
The Redmi 9A shows a 6.53-inch IPS LCD display with a water drop notch at the top, in which there is a 5-megapixel selfie shooter. This camera may sound weak, but it supports HDR, gesture photo, and face recognition. On the back we have a single 13MP camera coupled with an LED flash. It offers functions such as HDR, portrait mode, AI scene detection and time-lapse photography. Finally, this camera can output videos at 1080 @ 30fps.

If the amount of 32 GB is not enough for you, you can simply insert a good microSD card. Other features include a 1217 speaker, Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Unfortunately, the Redmi 9A is not labeled as the device that brought a fingerprint scanner at this price.
The handset maintains the Redmi tradition of battery life thanks to a massive 5,000 mAh battery. Unfortunately, charging is slow because this phone has a micro USB port. This is a controversial choice as last year's Redmi 8A came with a USB-C connector. Unfortunately, charging this massive battery will take a while due to the 10W limit.
The Chinese version is delivered with MIUI 12 immediately after unpacking. It runs on Android 10 OS.
