Netflix started testing the ability to control playback speed on its platform back in October last year. Today, Netflix announced that users can now speed up or slow down the playback speed of their Android app. This new feature will be launched today for users with the Android mobile app and will soon be available for the iOS app and the web version.
Playback controls let users choose between slower (0.5x or 0.75X) or faster (1.25X and 1.5X) video playback options on their phone or tablet, and soon any screen of your choice. The playback control button appears in the lower left corner of the screen while content is displayed.
As soon as users tap it, a window opens in which they can choose between 0.5x, 0.75x, 1x (normal) and 1.25x and 1.5x playback speed options. However, the playback speed will return to normal every time users watch a new movie or TV show. This indicates that there may not be an option to set a default playback speed that applies to all content from the start.
