4-star linebacker TJ Dudley to announce commitment Monday on CBS Sports HQ

Commitments are flying left and right across college football after nearly one month of official visits for 2022 prospects. Now that June is nearly over, recruits will mull over everything they saw on campuses and come to decisions — many players like to commit before the start of their senior year of high school, so expect lots to pull the trigger during July and August.

One top player who will be announcing this week is 4-star linebacker TJ Dudley from Montgomery (Ala.) Catholic Preparatory. Some of the top programs in the nation have offered, and sources tell 247Sports’ Brandon Huffman that Dudley will be choosing from a trio of Alabama, Oregon and UCF, though he did officially visit Texas this weekend.

Fans can watch Dudley’s announcement live on CBS Sports HQ on Monday at 1:15 p.m. ET to see where the talented linebacker will attend college. Oregon leads on the 247Sports Crystal Ball as of Sunday night, and Dudley would be a huge pickup for the Ducks after coach Mario Cristobal and Co. recently saw senior linebacker Isaac Slade-Matautia enter the NCAA transfer portal.

If Oregon does come out on top, this would also represent the Ducks’ second major statement in the state of Alabama during the 2022 cycle, as they previously secured a commitment from 4-star quarterback Tanner Bailey. Dudley is ranked as the nation’s 199th best player regardless of position and is the 23rd best linebacker. Inside the state of Alabama, Dudley is ranked as the ninth-best prospect.

Two out of three 247Sports experts to put in Crystal Ball predictions for Dudley are going with the Ducks — Prehm and Keith Niebuhr of Auburn Undercover. Hank South of BamaOnLine put in a Crystal Ball for the Crimson Tide to land Dudley back in January. Oregon currently sits at No. 26 in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite team rankings for the 2022 class — third in the Pac-12 — and Dudley’s commitment would help the Ducks start to re-assert themselves as the conference’s top recruiting force.

Alabama’s class, meanwhile, currently ranks No. 15 for 2022 and No. 4 in the SEC. It’s not unusual for the Tide to start slow as they’re selective with how they recruit; last year, Alabama was well below its usual standard in the spring before ultimately finishing with a historically good No. 1-ranked class.
