Northwestern Pennsylvania High School Sports Awards winners revealed

A young woman who overcame serious injuries to win two district titles, one of the most decorated tennis players in PIAA history, and a football standout from Mercer County were among the big winners Wednesday on District 10’s big night. 

The Erie Times-News and honored District 10’s premier athletes, coaches, teams and contributors when it conducted the Northwestern Pennsylvania High School Sports Awards Show online for the second straight year Wednesday.

McDowell diver and track and field standout Kalli Knott won the Courage Award, while Villa Maria tennis/golf standout Tara Thomas and Hickory football player Michael Henwood were selected as the Athletes of the Year.

Cathedral Prep won two major awards as Steve Piotrowicz was named Coach of the Year, and his Cathedral Prep basketball team was selected as the Team of the Year. Another Hickory standout, freshman wrestler Louie Gill, was picked as the Rookie of the Year.
