The Westroads mall shooting victims have been identified as 21-year-old Trequez Swift and 22-year-old Ja’Keya Veland. Swift died from his injuries at CHI Bergan Mercy. Veland suffered non-life-threatening injuries.Veland admitted herself at CHI Immanuel saying she was shot in the leg during the incident.It was a sight on Saturday afternoon that felt all too familiar. “We received a call of a shooting at Westroads Mall,” said Lt. Neal Bonacci, Omaha Police Department. This time, on the first floor by JCPenney.Nine minutes after noon, employees inside received an alert from Westroads Mall warning of an active shooter. We now know from police, that was not the case. “This was not an active shooter situation, however the department just taking precautions treated it as so,” said Lt. Bonacci. 21-year-old Trequez Swift died, and police say the gunfire hit 22-year-old Ja’Keya Veland in the leg. Officers said she will survive. Police searched the entire mall but said the suspects got away. So far, they have not been caught. “What we did find from security footage is that the suspects fled from the mall; we are looking for those suspects; we are still working on identifying them,” said Lt. Bonacci. Both shooting suspects remain at-large. The Omaha Police Department continues to investigate.Officers say the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, not a random attack.
